Project & Plans

DO YOU DARE RIDE YOUR BIKE TO BERWICK? Believe it or not, although heavily used by fast moving traffic the B6461 between Berwick and Paxton is a designated route of the cycle network.

Not for the faint hearted and certainly not a family friendly cycle ride. It is mostly lacking a footpath, so is also unsuitable for pedestrians.

Is there an alternative? There could be. If there was a footbridge over the Whiteadder, we would have a much safer and very pleasant route for cyclists and walkers, which would also connect with the proposed Reston to Melrose cycleway at Chirnside or south to Coldstream.

Fanciful perhaps but there is a lot of investment in cycling at the moment for health and environmental reasons, and a funding application backed up by plenty of local support, could be the start.

For example, there is the Destination Tweed Community Grants Scheme was launched to support projects based within 2 km of the River Tweed which have a connection to the River Tweed and its Nature, History and Stories.

TREES AND MORE TREES our villages need a tree audit! … mostly self seeded, our trees are showing their age and die back is affecting many.

Funding is available if we could identify suitable sites…….
