New Scheme for Community Council – September 2025

Community Councils (CCs) were first established in Scotland following the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973. Thereafter, the Local Government etc. (Scotland) Act, 1994, which produced the current system of local authorities, made provision for the continuation of Community Councils (CCs).

Scottish Borders Council, in accordance with Section 22 of the Local Government etc. (Scotland) Act 1994 adopted a new scheme for the operation of CCs on 25^th September, which replaced the previous scheme.
